You've gotta love friends who enjoy the same things you do. Especially ones who think walking around Whole Foods just to look at food is a good use of a Sunday morning. While we were walking around the bulk foods section, discussing our favorite grains, I was inspired to hunt down a quinoa recipe (or two) and give it a go. I used Not Without Salt's recipe for the savory batch and copied her again by using the FWDGF cookbook for the sweet batch.

I wasn't in love with the sweet version. The fruit was delicious and the mint and grapefruit juice smelled absolutely divine, however the texture of the quinoa with the fruit was just a little weird for me. The savory version was perfect with some (soy sauce and sesame) grilled chicken.

What's your experience with quinoa? Any favorite recipes? Do tell!

1. I love wandering Whole Foods. Mostly because that means I'm in the Pearl and I love wandering the Pearl most of all. Powell's! Anthro! More Powell's! Storables! Heavenly block of shops, right there.

2. I LOVE quinoa. I also love the way it's spelled vs. the way you say it. Especially because I knew a kid in college whose name was pronounced ki-no-wa (which of course is not how you pronounce quinoa, but I digress, mightily).

3. I have never made it at home but the next time you're in NW, we'll have to hit up Bridgeport because they have an awesome vegan bowl loaded with tasty quinoa.

4. I will forever maintain quinoa looks like baby fish eggs, but tastes like magic.

I love quinoa and cook with it all the time. I saute veggies and use a stock with it, I use it like rice with asian sauces, ect. I especially like it with Trader Joe's yellow curry sauce. Pretty much anything you want to use it for, it will work.

Will be checking back for more quinoa recipes!

Quinoa is delicious and the perfect summery grain. There's this neat hummus bar in NYC called "Nanoosh" and they offer a quinoa salad that has dried cranberries in it...maybe cucumbers as well. It was so scrumptious!

I love the versatility of quinoa. I match a big batch on Sunday in the rice cooker and then use it through out the week for meals. In the summer I make it into salads. I often just eat it plain with salt and butter and some veggies mixed in. DELISH. I have never gotten on board with eating it as a sweet. I suppose I should at least TRY it.
