Trying something new.

Hey all. So, I've been thinking a lot about my shopping/spending habits, and while they aren't anywhere close to out of control, I think it would be a good idea for me to pare down what I buy and see if I can't stash away a little cash for the future. And, I figured since June is my craziest month at work, it would be a perfect trial run month. I'm not saying I'm giving up shopping entirely, I'm just saying I'm going to set a strict budget and stick to it. I'm saying I'm going to select a few things that I will allow myself to buy this month and those few things are it. No last minute additions to my Anthropologie shopping cart, no more taking returns back only to come home with different pieces. I'm standing firm, and you my loves, are going to help me.

This may come back to bite me because there's always that one item that pops up that you just HAVE to have. But, I've learned that there's really always something and I definitely don't need everything. So, here are a few items I'm allowed to buy if they go on sale:
Things I Can BuyFashion Trends & Styles - Polyvore

Items in this set: Field Game Cardigan, $120, Magnified Geranium Blouse, $98, Changeable Skies Top, $78, Sunday Supper Shirt, $68, Daring Dart Blouse, $68

I may buy any of these things IF and ONLY IF they go on sale. I also reserve the right to substitute out whichever items from my wish list actually go on sale first, as long as my purchases are within my monthly clothes budget.

Thank you for your help and accountability! I'm looking forward to having a little extra stashed away in the bank!

And, get used to a new feature on this blog, consisting of the things I would like to buy if I wasn't being so well behaved.:) Let's start now, shall we?

A girl can dream! And that's what I shall do for the next month! Thanks for your help, y'all are the best. Got any shopping budget secrets? What helps you tighten the reins?

This reminds me of the site New Dress a Day...have you seen/heard of it?

Crafty as you are, you could definitely do something similar, at least short term!

My best shopping budget secret is to just stay away from stores and online shopping!! When I need to save money I put away the ol' bank card for a while. It sounds uninspired, but it's the only thing that works for me.

Good for you! I don't have a big shopping budget, so that helps not to spend :) It's nice that you're not cutting yourself off from shopping all together, but just limiting it to the things you really want.

Good for you for making a reasonable list. If I was honest, staying away from your blog would save me money! LOL! But today my savings tip was to try Old Navy for pieces I can use to recreate some of your looks. I have a cart right now that is just under $100. If I get it and things work, I can recreate 3 outfits using pieces I already have in my closet!

i did something like this once where i made a list of what i wanted and i could only shop off of that list. it was actually very helpful and i ended up not only saving a lot of money but buying items that i really wanted and needed in my closet.

the return and then bringing home something new is my toughie. so hard.

btw, the french democracy dress. i bought that on lulus last year and i think it was considerably less. you might want to see if they still carry it.

good luck!

Good luck. I gave up shopping for Lent the past two years and IT SUCKED so hard, and I failed. I try to set aside an equal amount each month for charity so if I spend $350 on clothes and shoes, then $350 goes to charity (never that high, btw). It gets way expensive that way. But, at least I feel like I've given something back.

I have that cardigan (the striped one). If it makes you feel better, it's hard to match!

I love the Kate Spade peacock dress in the last set. So pretty!

I'm pretty sure I'm going to try to a shopping ban, hiatus or at least a restriction like yours in July. I'll help keep you motivated and accountable. Do the same for me? :-)

I'd be a bad AA sponsor bc I'd be off the wagon with you in a minute. I'll try and be strong for you, but I may sit back in the shadows if you get weak. I'm horrible at maintaining budgets! I'm glad you gave yourself some wiggle room instead of going cold turkey. that's the best model to follow. I believe it's called "Harm Reduction". seriously, it is!

I have seen quite a few DIY posts on the Field Game Cardigan. I've been thinking I should cut on the spending too but I'll have to start that tomorrow. There's a 40%off the entire store sale at my local BRFS. hehe

I think you've picked some great pieces for your wishlist, so that will make sticking to it easier I think. I will say though, I adore the Fashion Democracy dress and may have to take dancingkitchens advice and look for it on lulus!

I think my lack of income is what keeps me frugal. I did all of my summer clothes shopping this month and spent about $200. I managed to walk away with 6 dresses, 5 cardigans, and 2 shirts. Thanks to Target and Old Navy and their $15 cotton dresses. And Lane Bryant for their 40% store wide sales.

Good luck with your challenge. That democracy dress is way cute.

I have yet to afford anything really from Anthroplogie, (Stupid Gap sucking my money with that "employee discount") so I always tend to look at what you have boughten with a little envy.

That and because you always make the darn cutest outfits every day!
