I've been on quest lately. A quest to define my style. That probably sounds rather trivial to most of you, but it's something that I have thought about my entire life. I've spent my life studying other people's style, wondering why they put things together a certain way, wondering how they achieve a look that they feel portrays who they are on the inside. Naturally, this has caused me to spend a lot af time wondering what it is that defines my style? What do my clothes say about me?* Do they provide a consistent message? Are they saying what I want them to say? Do they accurately portray who I am on the inside?
*Please note that I am NOT saying I am only defined by what I wear, nor am I saying I only care what others think of me. I have just always been curious about people who have a distinct sense of style and have always wanted to have the same.
Lately, I've been paying attention to the things I'm drawn to in stores or online and wondering what they say about my taste and preference. I think 1/2 of the things I've bought this spring have been striped. I've cut out photos of beautiful dresses with classic silhouettes, sky-high heels and quilted bags from my magazines. And countless images of red lips and nails, and sculpted hair-do's cover my inspiration boards.
Wanna' see?
So what does all this mean? What is the definition of my style? Well, honestly I think it's one of those things that is ever evolving, just look at how much my style has changed over the last two years. However, here are a few things I'm feeling are really "me" right now.
Red lipstick.
Flower pins.
Striped tops.
Polka dots.
Updos.
Cocktail rings.
50's dresses.
Pencil skirts.
Colored button ups.
Jackie cardigans.
Quilted bags with chain handles.
Patent pumps.
Big post earrings.
Sheath dresses.
What things are really "you" right now?
Defining my style.

Great topic- I always seem to think about this but just can't seem to come up with a particular adjective to describe me. Instead, I wear what makes me happy and feel good, and it's a mix of everything. It's almost like I'm more clear on what I don't like than what I do like!!
I too have a couple of look books where I've cut out images of pieces or outfits that speak to me and provide inspiration for future outfits.
I think that based on my last few outfits, full skirts are definitely me at the moment, as well as stripes!
Wow, you are organized in your fashion inspiration. I love that last pic with the gal in the wide leg denim trousers - I was totally covetting that whole look from Vogue too!
I don't really think I have a style - I try for "effortless chic" but it's a lot of work! I'm with Dea, I kind of wear what I feel and enjoy taking inspiration from others.
Like you it's all about the stripes for me. I have so many stripy tops! I think it must be my default setting when I go into shops. And yes I am wearing a grey and blue stripy top right now!
You are Urban Retro Classic. That's how I'd define you. You like classic cuts and lines with feminine touches in urban chic colors.
At least that's the feeling I get from reading your blog. ;-)
Oh and I was going to say that my style seems to have a uniform in the last year. It's all dresses with belts, cardigans, flower pins, and boots. I think I need to find an update to my look.
