The one where I MAKE A DRESS.

I realize that to most people, especially those who sew regularly, this is such a bore. But to me, who has always dreamed of being a fashion designer, who has always wondered if I have what it takes, being able to sit down at my sewing machine and make something- something with actual shape in fact, it's just a dream come true!

So bear with me as I post eleventy hundred photos of my very first piece of apparel. Perhaps one day we'll all look back on this post and remember my humble beginnings (ha!).

Where the magic happened.

My trusty assistants: Batman bobble-head and Starburst Jellybeans (BEST EVER).

The dress!

Puuurty!
Buckled Cummerbund: Anthropologie
Wedges: Steve Madden

I have LOTS of room to grow. I mean WOW. Don't look too closely at my seams please. But just knowing that I can do it is so satisfying! I feel like I am one teeny tiny step closer to my dreams.

Whoa! You made that??? Adorable! How did you learn to sew, or have you always known??

Awww I LOVE it! Not a bore to me at all (I haven't used a sewing machine since 8th grade home ec). My sister is a fashion design major, so I get little glimpses into it, but I'm still amazed every time I see someone whip up something so gorgeous! Congrats.

Just found your blog - it's awesome and your style is great!
I dig your new dress - and I am envious of anyone who can sew. I can only do buttons and bad patches on old pants. I had a sewing machine way back when but was terrible with it - I think I made some horrible skirts that never saw the light of day.

Wow! Your dress is so cute! Do you remember when you made your apron a few months ago and now you've made a dress! I am so impressed! Way to go, I can't wait to see more!!!

I have a sewing machine. Once upon a time I could sew a mostly straight line. Now I can't even remember how to thread the damn bobbin. And I have like 4 pairs of pants that need hemming. It's a sad shame when I buy petite pants and still have to hem them.

You did a great job with that dress. I know of a wedding in August you could wear it to...

Coming from someone (me) who has attempted to sew and failed, I am impressed. It's so pretty!

That is awesome! Kudos to having the creativity and patience to do that. I would give up at Step 1 (and I own a sewing machine).

Looks awesome!! I may sew regularly, but I'm still mighty impressed by anyone who can make things that fit an actual human body. Excellent work!

Wow, that is amazing! Keep at it and one day I might see you on Project Runway and I can be all, "I remember when she made her first dress..."

Great job! I love the teal with the red accessories. I had fashion design dreams once and made a few dresses but then decided that I like making handbags better. ;)
